Quake ii expansions11/14/2022 ![]() One of these that stands out to me is the Medic Commander, in the earlier entries the Medic is a bi-pedal mech style monster that is capable of resurrecting dead enemies if they haven't been gibbed, this ability makes them a high priority target in any battle they appear in since they can quickly turn the tide against you. All of these enemies have inflated health pools, some of them have shields making encounters with them extremely tedious. Most of the new enemies are basically reskins or reworking of existing enemies, and all of them have extremely annoying attacks, this new green projectile that appears to have splash damage making it almost impossible to avoid. Large expansive levels in themselves aren't really a problem, it's really how they are made use of, if the combat and engagements are entertaining then this is a moot point but sadly they are neither. The second and more important element is new enemies and their usage. In Ground Zero the level design expands itself into long, winding, exhausting almost labyrinthine areas, going well beyond what's really reasonable for this kind of game because it largely kills the faster pacing the previous games established, and the fact that levels in Quake II are bundled into "units", maps that can be explored in a somewhat non linear fashion, by expanding all maps in the same way means that exploring them as a unit is even more tedious and annoying. #Quake ii expansions how toIn the earlier entries level design was fairly contained, levels were small, employing verticality to add literally extra depth to the exploration, this meant that through general exploration you could become somewhat intimate with the level, if you were ambushed you generally knew how to navigate yourself out of trouble even if only temporarily. Ground Zero is of significantly lower quality in terms of fun and gameplay than either, a problem caused by a handful of gameplay elements that have an almost disproportionate effect on the general flow of the game. 40% PCIf you're coming to Ground Zero after playing Quake II and / or The Reckoning and expecting a general "more of the same" style expansion pack prepare yourself to be gravely disappointed. ![]()
